Tara Winkler

Tara Winkler has done what alot of people only think about doing, she is a true inspiration.

Tara first traveled to Cambodia in 2005, she was volunteering as an English teacher at the landmine museum when she went to visit an orphanage in Battanbang region, her life has never been the same since. The children were living in extreme poverty and being used as a commodity.  The experience made a real impact on Tara and after returning to Australia she decided that she could not just do nothing about this.   She returned to Cambodia in 2007 and started a charity, Cambodian Children's Trust which protects these children and ensures a safe and secure home.
Tara is now living in Cambodia and has forged strong relationships with the local people, through her organisation the CCT, she is committed to helping Cambodia breaking the cycle of poverty and focused on a sustainable future, "Progress requires a progressive outlook. If we want developing countries to develop, we must keep developing the methods of delivering aid, being ready to adapt to current social climates, focusing on what is working and moving away from what isn’t. Projects aimed at long-term sustainable development is the best way forward for Cambodia."
Tara is not only beautiful on the outside but also on the inside and it is her inside that has changed lives.  As I am about to take a holiday in Cambodia she is in my thoughts and wondering what kind of impact the country and it's people will make on me.

Protecting Australia's Ecosystems

Under the Australian government's plan, an additional 44 large areas of marine reserve will be added to nation's existing network of protected zones, encompassing the nation's most important aquatic ecosystems. Once fully implemented by year's end, approximately one-third of Australia's territorial waters will be under legal protection -- totally a whopping 1.2 million square miles of ocean.
"For generations Australians have understood the need to preserve precious areas on land as national parks,'' said Minister Burke, as reported by The Daily Telegraph. "Our oceans contain unique marine life which needs protection too.''
Going forward, the broad swaths of marine reserve will be off limits to commercial fishing and oil exploration in a bid to protect the fragile aquatic ecosystems from the harmful impacts of overfishing and offshore drilling.
